Operation Child Protect

Nearly 800,000 children are reported missing each year.  This means that more than 2,000 children are reported missing every day.*  Timely, accurate, reliable information about the child is the most important law enforcement and community tool necessary to bringing a child home safely.

The mission of Operation Child Protect, a partnership between the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office and the FBI, is to employ the latest technology to create child identification tools that will provide law enforcement with accurate, up-to-date identification of missing children.

The goal of this safety initiative is to provide free child identification kits and educational materials to parents and guardians of children in Cuyahoga County.

Each Child ID Kit includes:

  • A Child ID Card, which contains color photographs, vital demographic and medical information, plus the childs’s 10 fingerprints
  • A digital color photograph on a CD – both a head and shoulders view and a profile
  • A Buccal (cheek) DNA Collector

The Child ID Kit is maintained solely by parents and guardians.
